What does it feel like to withhold joy? Withheld joy is something that is uniquely created by an individual. What do I mean by that? Do you know you can choose joy over sadness, and if you do, your mind will cause your body to respond? If you listen to, and focus on, an audio, of someone speaking about a lemon being cut, your mouth will actually water. So, your body will respond to you thinking about that which makes you happy. Whether you are or aren’t doesn’t matter, what matters is your decision to be happy and then letting the feelings happen instead of focusing on stress and allowing it to linger.
“Put on a happy face!” may be a simple statement, but, the feelings behind it make it last. Do you find, when you can’t grab a smile, you are hanging out in stress?
Decisions happen all the time, and, only you can ultimately be responsible for your life and your daily feelings. If you fail to decide, you fail to live naturally. You have a mind capable of deciding matters for yourself, just like your boss, loved one, or a judge. So, why do we look to others to decide: what movie to see, what food to eat, what music to listen to, what perfume smells good, which fabric feels good in clothing. We even ask others what: hairstyle to wear, car to drive, church to go to, if any, and, what to do with the time when we are away from the job?
Joy deprivation comes from failing to use our five (5) senses and those eight (8) hours that are meant for proper play! What do you do with those hours that are independent of sleep or working to make a living? If you get good at using them you can soon find joy. Start playing at something during that recess period. Make a scrapbook, put photos in an album, knit, paint, write poetry or that life story. What matters is that you start. Make a decision today to gain joy. You will go to sleep tonight knowing more than you did when you started your day. Quit withholding your own success, as, joy deprivation may be more harmful to your health than sleep deprivation. Have some fun with this! Put on a happy face by building it today.
