Taking Control of Your Life through Control of Your Weight
I remember in one of the Star Trek Movies; Spock had died but through his burial on the Genesis planet regained his life along with the birth of that new planet. Following his recovery he was taken to his Volcan world to undergo a “re-programming”, as it were, of his knowledge base and memories. Following a series of tremendously complex questions the computer asked, “How Do You Feel?” Spock tilted his head as only a Vulcan can and stated that he did not know the question. The computer again asked, “How Do You Feel?”
I think Spock answered something like, “It is irrelevant.” Today our feelings are very relevant!
In most cases, our feelings dictate the outcomes of events in our lives.
Today we need to ask ourselves, “How do we feel?” It is a statistical fact that over 65% of the U.S. population is 30 to 40 percent overweight. Why is that? I think that we have become disillusioned with the way things are in society, and seek out comfort in food – I know, I had also been guilty of this. The problem is that when we realize that we are overweight we begin to feel defeated with the very thing which we sought out to give us comfort. As a teen I had gained a lot of weight and people around me did not hesitate to let me know that I was too heavy; in fact, my weight became the source of great entertainment for them. The problem was that their statements really made me feel bad about me, and soon the very thing I sought out to give me comfort gave me more pain. DEFEATED AGAIN!
Then I said, “STOP!” I decided to stop giving control of myself to food and found a formula that helped me loose weight and keep it off. In fact it works so well that now, 40 years later, I actually use this formula to gain weight as I can tend to get too thin since I am no longer controlled my by appetite, whether it be for food or emotional gratification.
I am so happy with the control this formula has given me that I want to GIVE IT TO YOU!
Here it is: You simply take your body weight times 12 (for a moderately active person).
The sum you end up with is how many calories you consume each day to
maintain that weight.
If you want to loose ONE POUND PER WEEK you simply subtract 500
calories from that overall sum. Example:
I weigh 145 lbs I want to weigh 120, so I want to loose 25 lbs.
Multiply x 12
= 1740 The amount of calories I take in each day.
Subtract – 500 To loose (1) lb per week
= 1240 The calories I need to loose one lb per week.
It is recommended that you loose weight gradually, e.g. 1 lb. per week as weight lost gradually is more likely to stay off. Using this formula I went from 5’6” @ 15 yrs. & weighing 145 lbs to 5’8” @ over 40 yrs. & weighing 100 lbs. (I am small boned)
After you have your formula you go to any book store and purchase a pocket calorie counter. I used to enjoy sitting down each day, or weekly, drafting out my food menu according to the calories contained in the food. In the beginning, go ahead and eat sweets and snacks so that you don’t feel you are being cheated. You can also purchase a calorie counter that lists fast foods. Did you know a fast food burger alone has 895 calories in it? This really works well and I am in control of my weight, in control of my life.
Thank You,
UNDEFEATED LIFE
